While others follow politics, football or tabloid drama, I’ve been watching the rise of young artist in Icelandic music, women who create boldly and sing without asking for permission. Katrín Myrra is one of them. If you haven’t heard her name yet, you’ve either been hiding under a rock – or in airplane mode. With hits like “Snerti Þig”, “Aftur Og Aftur”, and her latest viral smash “VBMM?”, Katrín is fast becoming one of the defining voices in Icelandic pop.
Her track “VBMM?” with Klara Einars hit like a pixelated memory. Suddenly, we were back on MSN Messenger – where relationships started with emojis and ended with passive-aggressive status updates.

This kind of throwback is exactly why we chose Katrín as our first Leading Lady. Nostalgia with bite, charm without gloss. The track took off on TikTok and hit a nerve with everyone who grew up flirting behind a screen.
“Klara and I just clicked creatively,” Katrín explains. “We wanted to tap into that weird, wonderful simplicity of the MSN days. And it turned into this whole moment.”

Katrín recently spent a month in Portugal, volunteering at a rescue center for abandoned domestic and wild animals. In between, she wrote new material in a more peaceful setting.
“It was a much-needed reset,” she says. “I came back with new melodies, new lyrics, and a new sense of clarity.” We’ll dive deeper into her travels and creative process in a follow-up feature – stay tuned.
