Nirvana’s groundbreaking album Nevermind, released on September 24, 1991, took the world by storm and became an instant classic, selling over 30 million copies globally. Known for hits like "Smells Like Teen Spirit," the album continues to resonate with audiences, often ranking at the top of "best albums of all time" lists.
Now, you have a unique chance to experience this legendary album performed live by some of Iceland’s most renowned rock musicians. Following hugely successful performances in Reykjavík at Háskólabíó and the historic Iðnó theatre, the Nirvana Tribute Band is bringing their electrifying show to the iconic music venue Græni Hatturinn in Akureyri on June 27, 2025.
Meet the Band
Fronting this exceptional tribute are Einar Vilberg and Franz Gunnarsson (Paunkholm), two of Iceland’s busiest and most talented rock artists.
Einar Vilberg is celebrated for his dynamic stage presence and powerful voice. Known for reaching the finals of the Stone Temple Pilots vocalist auditions in 2016, Einar leads the rock band NOISE and is a member of international metal band Dead Eyed Creek. His solo projects have also gained critical acclaim.
Franz Gunnarsson, aka Paunkholm, is Iceland’s go-to guitarist, known for his technical brilliance and captivating stage charisma. Franz has collaborated with numerous Icelandic artists and is integral to multiple acclaimed music projects.
They are joined by:
Jón Svanur Sveinsson on bass and backing vocals
Stefán Ari Stefánsson on drums and vocals
